  1.                 WHATS51D

  3.     WHATS51D is the followup to 50D, which is explained below. The
  4. version    of CDP in this package is CDPSW50.EXE which shows 501D on its screen.
  5. VERS-501.ME is contained in all packages as being explanatory of them all.
  6. The only differences in the SW packages is the WHATS??? file and the
  7. CDPSW??.EXE file.

  11.             A Word on the "Version Number"
  12.  
  13.     This particular .ZIP package, CDPSW50D.ZIP, contains CDPSW50.EXE,
  14. which is the companion of the new version of CDP that uses 43 lines on EGAs
  15. as its default mode. CDPSW50.EXE displays 50 lines on VGA monitors.

  17.     The companion package, CDPSW43B.ZIP, contains CDPSW.EXE, which
  18. displays 43 lines (suppressable default) on EGA & VGA monitors. It uses
  19. 2 KB less memory when resident.    Another package, CDPSW43C.ZIP contains
  20. CDPSW25.EXE which displays only 25 lines but uses 7 KB less memory.

  22.     CDPSW50D contains CDPSW50.EXE, which displays 50 lines on a VGA
  23. monitor as its default.

  25.     The B, C or D in the last letter of the name do not refer to
  26. incremental version numbers; but rather to the nature of the version.

  28.     B has been the version suffix for the regular CDP (as opposed to
  29. CDPW2.EXE, the version with 2 directory trees, available only with CDP
  30. registration; which is suffixed with an A.)

  32.     CDPSW.EXE shows 430B on its screen when it runs. CDPSW25.EXE shows
  33. 430C and CDPSW50.EXE shows 500D. The registered .EXEs are CDPW2.EXE, CDP.EXE,
  34. CDP25.EXE, and CDP50.EXE, all of which are in the registered package, and
  35. display 430A, 430B, 430C, 500D, respectively.

  37.     The last previous .ZIP package was CDPSW16G.ZIP. CDPSW43B.ZIP,
  38. CDPSW43C.ZIP, and CDPS500D.ZIP are the immediate successors; they are equally
  39. up to date; and    there is no CDPSW43A.ZIP.

  41.     To distinguish future .ZIP distributions, the names will be changed to
  42. CDPSW44B, CDPSW44C, CDPSW50D, etc. -- at least so long as it is felt
  43. valuable to have the separate versions for different monitors. It seems
  44. worthwhile, since I see no reason why a user with a non-EGA-VGA monitor
  45. should sacrifice valuable memory for a feature that is useless to him.
